My next hit single.

Competition time

Sorry blog, I’ve neglegted you – but here is some good news!

Recently I raided the Dover archive and found some amazing copyright free images – far too many to write funny accompanying text for. To help me finish this series I am going to upload a few images at a time and ask people to tweet their ideas for captions. I’ll be giving away a free A3 or A4 print in exchange for any ideas I use. Please tweet your ideas to @get_real_paid with the number of the image your text relates to.

Additionally, I have rebuilt the Getrealpaid site and my portfolio, so please have a look.

The ever-quotable Winston Churchill

So, I’ve been off work with the flu for the last few days and haven’t been able to concentrate long enough to watch a film, but somehow managed to make some new Churchill quote posters. I started following Churchill Quotes on Twitter only to find it was a thinly masqueraded NLP workshop – perhaps Winston is an icon in the same way Henry Rollins seems to inspire American business men.

You can see the first quote posters here and here and you can buy them (the older prints) as iPad/iPhone Covers, T-Shirts, stationery cards and prints here

Design Research

This is a preview of my first book for the wonderful AVA – you can pre-order it now from Amazon. ‘Design Research’ is the second book in their Basics: Graphic Design range; I also co-authored the third title with Gavin Ambrose, the soon-to-be-released ‘Idea Generation.’

Desres

“A graphic design project can be viewed as a series of choices – the more informed these choices are, the stronger the outcome will be. Research is the tool that, above all others, can help you gain the in-depth knowledge needed to inform your choices and make the most appropriate and educated decisions.”

‘Alice’ cards

I’m finally selling some of my cards online. Previously they have only been available in selected retail outlets, but now I am unleashing them on the world.

You can see the set of ‘Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland’ inspired cards below, and they can be purchased here. I am also selling a set of three ‘Oh Dear’ cards here.

There is a greater variety available from my Society6 and Artflakes online shops, as well as through the wonderful Number83 in Westbourne, Bournemouth.

So, this is how it ends?

A friend and I were talking about getting older and how every sharp pain now seems to signal imminent death. He said he was on a train earlier that day and had a bit of a strange feeling in his chest and thought to himself ‘so, this is how it ends – on a packed commuter rain on the way to London.’ As funny and depressing as it was, the words stuck with me. So I made this.

How-it-ends

I am going to sell it through my Society6 shop, but I’m not sure who would by such a print…

The typeface is AW Conqueror Carved, and it can be found here

Embrace pt.2

Still using the wonderful F37 Neue Grotesk, there isn’t much to say about this series of prints that I didn’t say in the last post. I really like the red though… It’s saucy.

Embrace pt.1

Slightly inspired by the Facebook motivational posters, a failed screen print attempt, and the wonderful F37 Neue Grotesk, this set of posters seek to highlight many of the areas often overloked within contemporary design as there is such a focus on technology and technique. While these things are important, we should also embrace the simple things, like being way from the computer. There are more of these to come, and I might sell these at some point.

Come what may

‘Come what may’ – I really like the phrase, but never use it. Recently I found the best font resource on the web (ever!) and downloaded the amazing Homestead typeface. You can find this and a lot more at Lost type

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, pt.3

Well, my neighbours are having a party that they assured me would be over by 12.00. It didn’t end, so I thought I would re-visit the Alice in Wonderland posters. I’ve updated all of them and added two new designs. The typeface is still Reina (designed by Maximiliano Sproviero of Buenos Aires). You can purchase the older versions through Society6, Artflakes and Big Cartel, but I may switch to these fairly soon.

If you have any feedback, or requests please Tweet @get_real_paid or @neilleonard
